Cervical Smears
If you are aged between 25 and 64 you are entitled to regular smear tests under the national cervical screening programme. Tests are normally offered every 3 years (every 5 years after aged 50). Please ask at reception if you are unsure when your last smear was.
Smear tests are designed to reduce the number of women developing and dying from cervical cancer by detecting very early changes that can be simply treated. They can be done at the surgery and local family planning and sexual health clinics.
If you want to have your smear done at the surgery we are able to offer you an appointment in private, comfortable surroundings with an understanding practice nurse. Please ask about the appropriate time to have your smear done when booking your appointment.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Vaccinations for Pregnant Ladies
Following a national outbreak of whooping cough, pregnant ladies are being offered the Pertussis vaccine to protect their unborn child.
You can have the vaccine from 16-38 weeks during your pregnancy or before the baby is 8 weeks old (during their first immunisations).
Ask at reception for more details or to book an appointment.
Think Physio - Save GP's Time
We now have a physiotherapist, Neil Gregory working at the practice who could see you instead of the doctor. There are also physiotherapists available at other local practices who we are able to book you in with. The physiotherapists can assess various joint and muscle pains and give you a diagnosis and some advice.
The physiotherapists can deal with joint aches and pains such as whiplash, stiff painful necks and backs, elbow or shoulder pain, knee or hip pain, arthritis and sports injuries.
They will be able to examine you and give an explanation as to what the problem is and how best to treat it. They can liaise with the doctor about any medication or investigations if required. They can also refer you for physiotherapy if it is felt that that would help.
Please contact the surgery if you would like to make an appointment with any of the physiotherapists.

Clinical Research
We are proud to announce that Garden Lane Medical Centre supports clinical research.
Clinical trials are vital to the future of healthcare, helping find better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat conditions. That's why we're supporting clinical researchers to recruit eligible patients.
If you meet the criteria for a study in our area, we'll get in touch to let you know.
